Narrow Street
For sale
Midday sun splits the street in two. The whole painting is built on that split.
The buildings were laid in one wash while the paper was still wet, so the ochres bled into one another the way they do on a real wall in that light. Nothing was corrected afterwards.
The figures are deliberately without detail. They give the street its scale — how high the walls really are — and nothing else. A face in there would turn the painting into a story about a person, and it isn't one.
