charcoal on paper

hello,
i'm serdar

painter · watercolour, charcoal and acrylic

I paint streets, harbours, musicians and portraits. Most of the work starts on location, in a single sitting; back in the studio it is only left to dry. Works are sold straight from the studio — no gallery in between.

about

watercolour allows no going back,
charcoal allows far too much

Once a wash has settled into the paper there is no way of lifting it out; you can only decide what to put on top. That is why most of a watercolour is finished before the brush touches the sheet.

Charcoal is the opposite. There everything can be corrected, so what you have to learn is not to. In a portrait the point is not the likeness: it is the direction of the creases around the eye, the weight of the jaw, where a soloist pulls his shoulder as he takes a breath.

Send the title of the work you are interested in — that is enough. Price, exact size and current status come back by e-mail. Small formats are sent framed with their mount, larger ones packed flat and never rolled. No prints are made: each work exists once.
